Allegheny National Forest Morrison Trail Mile 4 Dispersed Area

A series of natural openings follows Morrison Trail’s old railroad grade, with the best camping around mile marker 4 near the creek crossing. Sites are grassy clearings under towering hemlocks and maples, most large enough for medium-sized rigs. Several spots offer direct access to the seasonal creek for water collection (treat before drinking). Old concrete foundations from logging era provide interesting camp furniture.

Trail surface varies from packed dirt to rocky sections, passable for stock 4WD vehicles in dry conditions. Can become impassable during spring melt or heavy rain periods. No signage marking campsites — navigation by GPS recommended. Area sees heaviest use during fall hunting season, otherwise provides solid solitude.
