Hueco Tanks State Park Pictograph Cave
Ancient pictographs cover the walls of natural rock shelters formed in massive granite outcrops. The colorful paintings include human figures, animals, and geometric designs spanning thousands of years of Native American history. Access to the most significant cave requires a guided tour to protect the fragile art from vandalism.
Located 32 miles east of El Paso off Highway 62/180. Self-guided areas open daily but the main pictograph sites require advance reservations for guided tours. Bring water and sun protection — this desert environment offers little shade between the rock formations.
