Tioga State Forest Black Forest Trail Mile 12 Dispersed Area

Dispersed Camping

This dispersed area sits along the Black Forest Trail’s most remote section, offering 4-5 primitive sites in dense mixed hardwood forest near the Pine Creek headwaters. Sites are basic — flat spots for tents or small rigs with stone fire rings built by previous campers. The area is quiet and isolated, popular with backpackers hiking the 42-mile trail loop but accessible to vehicles willing to navigate rough forest roads.

Access via Pine Creek Road (rough gravel turning to dirt), then forest service roads that can be challenging in wet conditions. No facilities whatsoever — bring everything including water or be prepared to filter from the creek. Road becomes impassable in winter and can be very muddy in spring thaw.
