Sheep Creek Campground Capitol Reef National Park
This primitive campground sits in a desert wash surrounded by red sandstone cliffs, offering a more remote Capitol Reef experience than the popular Fruita area. Five sites scattered along the creek bed provide basic amenities with fire rings and vault toilets, but no water or hookups. The setting feels wild and secluded, with excellent stargazing and morning light on the canyon walls.
Access requires a high-clearance vehicle due to sandy washes and occasional rock obstacles. The road can become impassable after heavy rains. Best visited spring through fall when temperatures are manageable and flash flood risk is lower.
