Caney Creek Wilderness Trailhead

The Caney Creek Wilderness protects some of Louisiana’s last old-growth longleaf pine forest, with 8,800 acres of rolling hills, clear creeks, and pitcher plant bogs. The main trailhead sits at the end of Forest Road 276, about 12 miles northwest of Many. Parking for maybe 6-8 vehicles on a small gravel area with no facilities beyond a wilderness boundary sign and trail register.

The access road is decent gravel for the first 8 miles, then gets rougher with some washouts and muddy spots after rain. High-clearance recommended for the final stretch. Popular with hunters in fall and spring turkey season, but sees light use otherwise. No camping at the trailhead itself, but dispersed camping is allowed outside the wilderness boundary along the forest roads.
