Sabine River Sand Hills OHV Circuit

The Sabine River carved these sand hills over millennia, leaving behind some of Louisiana’s most challenging deep sand terrain. This circuit winds through towering longleaf pines and palmetto thickets, following old logging roads and oil field access routes that connect several sand bowl areas. The infamous Devil’s Washboard section tests momentum and line choice as you navigate 40-foot sand bowls with near-vertical walls.

Expert difficulty requires aired-down tires, recovery gear, and experience reading sand. Stock vehicles will struggle — most run specialized sand tires or paddle tires. Summer heat makes this brutal; fall through early spring offers cooler temps and firmer sand after rain. No permits needed on this mix of state and private lands, but respect gates and no-trespassing signs. Water and fuel in Many or Zwolle.
