Fisheating Creek Outpost

Remote wilderness access point and canoe rental facility at the headwaters of the last free-flowing river in south Florida.

This family-run outpost sits at the end of a dirt road where Fisheating Creek begins its 56-mile journey to Lake Okeechobee. It’s part gear shop, part launching point for one of Florida’s most pristine waterways. Canoe and kayak rentals available, plus basic supplies, cold drinks, and local knowledge about creek conditions and wildlife.

The final 8 miles to reach this place are rough dirt — high-clearance recommended during wet season. Creek levels fluctuate dramatically; call ahead to check conditions. This is your last stop before entering true wilderness where phones don’t work and help is hours away.

Gateway to Florida's last wild river.
