Myakka River State Park Backcountry Trailhead

Gateway to 37 miles of hiking trails and primitive camping deep in one of Florida's oldest and largest state parks.

This trailhead launches you into over 28,000 acres of pristine Florida wilderness, where palmetto flats meet oak hammocks and the Myakka River winds through untouched wetlands. The trail system connects to backcountry campsites accessible only on foot, offering a rare taste of true solitude in densely populated Florida. Expect to see alligators, wild hogs, and abundant bird life including sandhill cranes and roseate spoonbills.

Park at the main visitor area and walk to the clearly marked trailhead. Trails range from easy boardwalk strolls to challenging 12-mile loops through wet prairies that flood seasonally. Bring bug spray year-round and plenty of water – this is genuine backcountry with limited facilities once you leave the developed area.
