This 9,000-acre park protects one of Florida’s last remaining hardwood hammocks, with towering oaks draped in Spanish moss creating cathedral-like canopies. The campground offers 138 sites with electric hookups, hot showers, and a camp store. Sites are spacious but fill quickly during snowbird season (December-March). Fire rings provided, but burn restrictions often apply during dry periods.
Located just off US-27, it’s perfectly positioned for overlanders running the Lake Okeechobee circuit or heading to Fisheating Creek. The park’s boardwalk trail through the ancient hammock is worth the stop. Accessible year-round, though summer brings intense heat and mosquitoes.
