Gibb River Road — Mount Barnett Station Creek Flat Dispersed Camp
Between the Mount Barnett Roadhouse and Manning Gorge, the Gibb River Road crosses a series of seasonal creek drainage flats. Overlanders running the eastern leg of the Gibb routinely pull off on these red-dirt and rock creek banks to camp under river gums and paperbarks. No facilities whatsoever — you’re on station country with open sky, dust, and the sound of birds at dawn. Fire restrictions apply in the dry season; check with the Shire of Derby/West Kimberley before you leave. Crocodile presence is possible in any waterway in the Kimberley — treat every water source accordingly.
Access is via the Gibb River Road itself, which demands high-clearance 4WD in this section — corrugations, creek crossings, and loose gravel are all in play. Dry season only (May–October). Mount Barnett Roadhouse is the nearest fuel and basic resupply. No signage marks these pull-offs; site selection is on you. Pack out everything.
