Can a lightly lifted 4Runner or Tacoma handle this trail?
Not without significant modification. The rocky mesa descents and river crossings demand full skid plate armor, a proper suspension lift, and aggressive all-terrain or mud-terrain tires at minimum. A stock or mild lift rig will get damaged — this trail was originally cut by mules, not trucks.
When is Vale do Pati passable and what happens in the wet season?
April through October is the dry window — outside that, the river crossings become dangerous and the descent tracks turn to slick mud. The wet season (November–March) has flooded vehicles and stranded crews in the valley with no extraction options nearby.
Do you need a permit to drive through Chapada Diamantina National Park?
Yes. Chapada Diamantina is a federally managed national park and vehicle entry requires authorization through ICMBIO, Brazil's national park authority. Coordinate permits in advance through the park office in Andaraí — showing up without paperwork gets you turned around.
