Costa Rica

Península de Osa Drake Bay to Corcovado Wilderness Track

Corcovado rainforest penetration challenge

Difficult

This muddy jungle track cuts deep into Península de Osa, Costa Rica’s last remaining lowland Pacific rainforest, connecting Drake Bay to the edge of Corcovado National Park. The route follows old logging roads through Río Claro Wildlife Refuge, crossing multiple tributaries of Río Claro where bridge washouts create technical rock-and-mud crossings. Expect deep mudhole challenges during wet season, when the track becomes a test of vehicle recovery skills and winch work.

Difficult year-round, extreme during wet season (May-November). Modified 4WD with aggressive tread, skid plates, and recovery gear essential. Dry season still presents muddy sections and creek crossings. No fuel for 40 miles, carry extra water and food. Access to world’s most biodiverse rainforest, guaranteed wildlife sightings, and genuine remote wilderness camping. This is Costa Rica’s Amazon – wild, unforgiving, unforgettable.
