Hell’s Revenge
Moab's ultimate slickrock challenge
Starting just outside Moab, Hell’s Revenge throws you straight into the deep end of slickrock driving across fossilized Navajo sandstone dunes. The trail immediately hits you with Hell’s Gate — a steep, exposed climb that’s claimed more than a few vehicles over the years — before winding through a maze of sandstone fins and bowls. The infamous Hot Tub provides a brief respite where you can actually get out and explore a natural pothole, but the trail saves its biggest punch for Mickey’s Hot Tub, a technical descent that demands perfect line choice.
This is expert-level wheeling that requires a built 4WD with low gearing, aggressive tires, and experienced spotters. Stock vehicles don’t belong here — you’ll need rock sliders, skid plates, and the skills to use them. Spring and fall offer the best weather, though the slickrock can be driven year-round. No camping along the trail itself, but nearby Sand Flats Recreation Area offers sites. The reward is conquering one of Moab’s most challenging and scenic routes while testing your rig’s limits on world-class slickrock.
