Dolan Falls Ranch Road
Technical ranch road to pristine Hill Country falls
This 12-mile point-to-point route follows ranch roads through classic Hill Country terrain to reach Dolan Falls, where the Devil’s River drops 20 feet into crystal-clear pools. The road starts as decent gravel but deteriorates into rocky two-track with limestone ledges and loose rock sections. You’ll gate-hop through working ranches before reaching the falls overlook, where spring-fed water maintains year-round flow even during drought. The final two miles require careful line choice through football-sized rocks.
Difficult rating due to the rocky technical sections and potential for undercarriage damage on stock vehicles. High-clearance 4WD with skid plates recommended, along with recovery gear and a buddy vehicle. Access requires permission from landowners or booking through outfitters. Best visited spring through fall when water levels are optimal for swimming. No cell service once you’re past the first ranch gate. The payoff is one of Texas’ most pristine swimming holes, worth every jarring mile.
