West Nueces River — Pulliam Creek BLM-Adjacent Dispersed Camp

Dispersed Camping

Follow the West Nueces River drainage northwest of Uvalde into Edwards County and you’ll find stretches of open, flat ground along the river’s limestone-banked bends where overlanders running the Trans-America Trail have been pulling off for years. The canyon walls are low cedar and live oak, the ground is caliche and grass, and at low water you can rock-hop to the far bank. No facilities, no signage, no fees — just the river, the stars, and maybe a distant coyote. Fire rings get built and scattered by different crews; bring your own wood, the cedar snags are usually dry.

Access is via rough county roads and ranch easements that form the TAT corridor through Edwards County — high-clearance 4WD is the minimum, and the caliche roads turn to slick gumbo after heavy rain. Cell service is essentially zero out here. Best season is October through May; summer heat on the Edwards Plateau is brutal and flash-flood risk spikes June through September. Top off fuel in Uvalde — there is nothing between here and Rocksprings.

Limestone river flat, zero services, all stars.
