Valley of Fire State Park

Nevada's oldest state park features dramatic red sandstone formations and established camping just 50 miles northeast of Vegas.

This iconic state park sits in the Mojave Desert with towering red sandstone formations that glow like fire at sunrise and sunset. Two developed campgrounds offer 72 total sites with picnic tables, fire rings, and restrooms — Atlatl Rock Campground handles bigger rigs while Arch Rock Campground works better for tents and smaller setups. Water and dump stations available, but no hookups. Gets busy on weekends and holidays.

Paved road access makes it easy for any vehicle. Spring and fall are prime seasons — summer temps hit 115°F+ regularly. Day-use fee required even if just passing through, but the petroglyphs and scenic drive through the formations are worth the stop.
