Tweedsmuir Provincial Park South — Hunlen Falls Trailhead

Trailhead

Hunlen Falls drops over 260 metres making it one of the highest waterfalls in Canada — and the trailhead to reach the viewpoint is a proper overlanding objective in itself. It sits within Tweedsmuir Provincial Park South, accessible off the Atnarko River valley road near Stuie, on the Bella Coola Highway 20 corridor. The trail is a challenging 18km round trip with significant elevation gain, but the payoff is a cascade that dwarfs most things you’ve seen. Grizzly bear country — standard protocols apply.

The trailhead has minimal infrastructure — no formal parking lot, no toilet. High-clearance is helpful for the final approach road. Season is June through September; the upper trail can hold snow into July. Overlanders running the Taseko River FSR or Tatlayoko divide routes often anchor a rest day at Bella Coola and day-trip here. No cell service once you leave Highway 20.

One of Canada's tallest waterfalls — earn it.
