Tunica Hills WMA Primitive Camping Area

Hidden away in the rolling Tunica Hills near the Mississippi border, this Wildlife Management Area offers some of Louisiana’s most unusual terrain — steep ravines, spring-fed streams, and even small waterfalls during wet periods. Primitive camping is allowed throughout the WMA with a Louisiana hunting/fishing license or WMA stamp. Sites are scattered along old logging roads and ridge tops, offering solitude among mature hardwoods and rare fern species found nowhere else in Louisiana.

Access roads can be challenging after rain, with some requiring 4WD to reach the better camping spots along the ridge system. No facilities whatsoever — pack everything in and out. The area transforms dramatically between seasons, from wildflower displays in spring to spectacular fall colors. Popular with hunters during seasons, so wear orange and check dates before visiting.
