Torridon Village — Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve Staging and Resupply
Torridon sits at the head of Upper Loch Torridon on the Wester Ross coast, backed by some of Scotland’s most dramatic geology — 750-million-year-old sandstone peaks that make the Alps look adolescent. The village has a small shop (limited hours, verify ahead), the NTS Countryside Centre with trail maps and local knowledge, and wild camp staging along the loch shore for tents. The NTS also runs a simple bothy-style hostel. This is your last reliable stop before heading deep into the Beinn Eighe corries or the Liathach ridge trail systems.
The single-track A896 runs the length of the glen — passing places are essential protocol, not optional. Winter road closures are possible after heavy snowfall. Fuel is NOT available in Torridon itself; fill up in Kinlochewe (8 miles east) or Lochcarron (18 miles south). Cell signal is patchy at best. Pull weather from NTS or Mountain Weather Information Service before committing to any ridge routes up here.
Gateway to Scotland's oldest peaks.
