The Interpretive Centre sits at kilometer 71 of the Dempster Highway, your gateway to some of Canada’s most spectacular subarctic wilderness. Jagged granite spires of the Tombstone Range rise dramatically from the tundra, earning comparisons to Torres del Paine. The centre offers maps, trail info, and displays on the unique ecology where boreal forest meets arctic tundra. Multiple day-hiking trails branch out from here, including routes to Grizzly Lake and Divide Lake.
Vault toilets and potable water available. Small parking area gets crowded during peak summer. The Dempster can be rough on vehicles — carry spare tires and expect dust or mud depending on conditions. Open seasonally from late May through early September, weather permitting.
