Tucked into Kingston Canyon at 7,000 feet elevation, this small Forest Service campground offers a cool mountain retreat from Nevada’s desert landscapes. The campground features about 12 sites among tall pines and aspens, with picnic tables and fire rings at each site. A seasonal creek runs nearby, and the setting provides excellent stargazing away from city lights. The campground typically opens in late May and closes with first snow, usually by October.
Access requires driving 12 miles up a good gravel road from Highway 376. The road can be rough in spots but is suitable for most vehicles with adequate clearance. Sites fill quickly on summer weekends, and there’s no reservation system – it’s first-come, first-served. Water is not available, so bring your own.
