Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest — Pine Creek Campground

Pine Creek Campground is a small, no-frills USFS site in the Toiyabe Ranger District, sitting in a canyon drainage on the eastern flank of the Toiyabe Range. It’s got a handful of sites, vault toilets, and fire rings under the piñon-juniper canopy. Elevation keeps temps reasonable even in midsummer, and the creek itself — when running — gives the place some life. It doesn’t see the traffic of campgrounds closer to Reno or Tahoe, so solitude is pretty much guaranteed mid-week.

Road in is a graded dirt two-track, manageable for most high-clearance rigs. A stock truck or SUV should be fine in dry conditions; after rain it gets greasy. Potable water is not reliably available on-site — treat creek water or bring your own. Check current conditions with the Austin Ranger District before heading in, as access can be affected by seasonal flooding or snow.
