Stonewall Mountain — Nevada BDR Volcanic Remnant and Basin Viewpoint
Stonewall Mountain is a recognizable basaltic landmark visible from the Nevada BDR southern segment as it threads between Tonopah and the Mojave Desert fringe. The mountain punches up from the flats west of the Amargosa Valley — dark, jagged, and impossible to miss from the trail. From the roadside viewpoints along the BLM two-tracks that skirt its base, you get unobstructed sightlines across the valley floor toward Death Valley’s eastern ranges. No crowds, no services, no noise. Just desert and sky.
The surrounding BLM land is open to vehicle travel on existing two-tracks. Roads in this zone are rough dirt and subject to flash flooding from the Spring Mountains storm tracks. High-clearance is recommended. No water, no facilities. Cell service is essentially nonexistent out here — plan accordingly before you leave the pavement.
