Stelvio Pass Summit — Passo dello Stelvio High Alpine Road Viewpoint

Passo dello Stelvio sits at 2,758 metres above sea level and is one of the most recognisable mountain roads on earth. The eastern approach from Prato allo Stelvio stacks hairpin on hairpin up a near-vertical wall; the western drop into Bormio is just as relentless. At the top you get a cluster of stone buildings, a war museum (World War I frontline ran right through here), souvenir stalls, and panoramic views stretching into Switzerland and Austria. Come early morning in July–August or you’ll be sharing the road with every motorcycle club in Europe.

Road is paved but narrow — expect full-size rigs to take it slowly on blind corners. Pass is typically open June through October, though heavy snow can close it as late as mid-June or as early as mid-September. Check Provincia di Bolzano road status before committing. No dispersed camping at the summit itself; base in Bormio or Trafoi.
