Camping Stelvio — Bormio Base Camp

Established Campground

Camping Stelvio sits on the edge of Bormio town, right where the Stelvio Pass road begins its ascent toward 2,758 metres. It’s a full-service campground with grassed pitches, hot showers, and electric hookups — the kind of place where you park the rig the night before a big climb, cook a proper meal, and actually sleep. The campground caters to a mix of motorcyclists, van-lifers, and overland rigs making the Stelvio run. Busy in July and August when the pass sees its heaviest traffic, so book ahead in peak summer.

Access is paved all the way — no clearance issues. Bormio itself is a genuine mountain town with a supermarket, fuel, and a pharmacy. From here the 48 hairpins of the eastern Stelvio ascent begin less than 2 km away. Season typically runs late May through September, closing when the pass itself closes for winter.

Stelvio's base camp — sleep before the climb.
