Stelvio National Park — Val Zebrù Roadside Dispersed Camp

Val Zebrù is a glacially carved side valley branching west off the Solda/Sulden road, tucked deep inside Parco Nazionale dello Stelvio. The gravel track dead-ends near the Rifugio Serristori, and a handful of flat gravel pullouts along the lower valley floor have been used by overlanders and alpine tourers for decades. You’re under the shadow of the Ortler group — serious, permanent snowfields visible all summer. It’s quiet midweek; busy with Italian day-trippers on August weekends. Campfires are prohibited inside the park. Self-contained rigs only — no facilities, pack everything out.

Access is via the Solda/Sulden valley road off SS38 near Gomagoi — high-clearance vehicle preferred for the upper gravel section. The area sits within the national park boundary, so technically bivouac rather than extended camping; park authorities typically permit one-night self-contained stops but rangers do patrol. No water at the pullouts — fill before heading in. Best window is late June through September before the first snow closes the upper track.
