Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area

North America's densest concentration of nesting raptors along dramatic Snake River canyon walls, protecting 15 species of birds of prey.

This 485,000-acre conservation area protects the world’s densest population of nesting raptors along the Snake River canyon. Prairie falcons, golden eagles, red-tailed hawks, and great horned owls nest in the basalt cliffs and hunt across the high desert shrubland. The Dedication Point Visitor Center offers interpretive displays and overlooks of the canyon, while the World Center for Birds of Prey provides educational programs and live bird demonstrations.

Access is via paved roads south of Boise, with gravel roads leading to various overlooks and hiking areas. Spring through early summer offers the best raptor viewing during nesting season, though the area is open year-round. Some areas have seasonal closures to protect nesting birds.
