Semonkong Lodge — Maletsunyane River Campsite
Semonkong Lodge sits on the rim of the Maletsunyane River gorge, about 120 km southeast of Maseru in the central highlands. The campsite is a proper established facility: ablution block, fire rings, and a lodge bar and kitchen next door that does meals and cold Maluti beer. The 192-metre Maletsunyane Falls are a 20-minute walk from camp — one of the highest single-drop falls in Africa and a legitimate jaw-dropper. This is a working endpoint for pony treks, abseiling operations, and highland fly-fishing, so expect other travellers in peak season (June–August and school holidays). It’s a destination, not just a sleep stop.
The road from Maseru to Semonkong (via Roma and Ramabanta) is sealed for the first stretch, then transitions to rough dirt and river crossings. 4WD is strongly recommended for the final approach, especially after rain. The lodge staff can advise on river levels and road conditions. Cell signal is essentially none — plan accordingly.
Africa's tallest waterfall, right at your doorstep.
