Sawtooth National Forest South Hills Mahogany Ridge Dispersed Area
This dispersed area sits at 6,800 feet on the north slope of the South Hills, offering a dozen pull-offs along a 2-mile stretch of maintained gravel road. Sites are tucked into mature mountain mahogany and juniper groves, providing decent wind protection and natural screening between camps. Most spots accommodate rigs up to 30 feet, with several larger openings for bigger setups. Fire rings are present but bring your own grate. Water must be packed in.
Access via Forest Road 549 from the Rogerson area — 18 miles of good gravel that any vehicle can handle. The area sees moderate use from hunters in fall and occasional weekend campers in summer. No services or cell coverage, but the solitude and sunrise views make it worth the detour.
