Pokagon State Park Campground
This 1,200-acre state park sits on Lake James and Snow Lake in the heart of Indiana’s northern lake country. The main campground offers 273 sites split between electric hookups and primitive tent areas, with modern bathhouses, picnic tables, and fire rings throughout. The park stays busy Memorial Day through Labor Day, especially weekends, but shoulder seasons offer quieter camping among mature hardwood forests.
Access is easy via US-27, making it a solid resupply point for overlanders hitting the northern Indiana trail networks. The park’s CCC-era Potawatomi Inn provides hot meals and cold beer after dusty trail days. Winter camping available year-round, though water may be shut off in primitive loops during hard freezes.
