Pinnacles National Park East Entrance

Dramatic volcanic spires and talus caves make this the wild side of the Central Coast ranges — a hidden gem for rock hounds and hikers.

The east entrance drops you into a landscape that looks more like Joshua Tree than coastal California — towering rock formations, narrow canyons, and talus caves formed by ancient volcanic eruptions. This side of Pinnacles is quieter than the west entrance, with better camping options and direct access to the Bear Gulch Cave system. Spring wildflower displays can be spectacular after wet winters.

The road in is paved but narrow and winding — not great for big rigs. Park is famous for California condors, which you’ll often see soaring overhead. Summer temps can hit triple digits, making spring and fall the prime seasons.
