Los Padres National Forest Indians Road Dispersed Sites
Primitive sites scattered along Indians Road in the rugged hills east of Big Sur, surrounded by oak groves and chaparral. Most sites are small, single-vehicle spots with natural fire rings. Popular with hunters during season and backpackers accessing the Ventana Wilderness. Limited capacity means it fills quickly on weekends. Fire restrictions common during dry months.
Access via Indians Road from Carmel Valley Road—a rough, narrow dirt track requiring high clearance and careful driving. Road becomes increasingly challenging toward the wilderness boundary. Gate may be closed during extreme fire conditions. Spring offers the best weather and wildflower displays.
