Los Padres National Forest Ventana Creek Dispersed Sites

Dispersed Camping

Several primitive sites line Ventana Creek Road (Forest Road 18S01) deep in the Los Padres National Forest backcountry. Sites sit among second-growth redwoods and Douglas firs with seasonal creek access — Ventana Creek runs reliably through spring but may reduce to pools by late summer. Most spots accommodate 1-2 vehicles with limited turning radius due to dense forest. Fire rings present at established sites, though fire restrictions common during dry months.

Road requires high-clearance and can become impassable when wet — check conditions before heading in. The 12-mile drive from Carmel Valley Road involves several creek crossings and narrow sections. Best accessed April through June when creek flows are reliable and road conditions stable. No facilities or cell service.
