Los Venados sits in the heart of Parque Nacional El Chico’s pine forests, offering developed camping sites with fire rings and picnic tables at serious altitude. The campground handles maybe 15-20 vehicles comfortably, with vault toilets and potable water taps scattered throughout. Nights drop into the 40s even in summer — this is proper mountain camping an hour from Pachuca.
Access via paved park road that turns to gravel for the final 3km. The elevation hits hard if you’re coming from sea level. Park entrance fee required, and sites fill up on Mexican holiday weekends. Best avoided during the July-September rainy season when fog rolls in thick.
