Teotihuacán Pyramid of the Sun Ancient Complex

Point of Interest

The Pyramid of the Sun towers 216 feet above the Avenue of the Dead, anchoring one of Mesoamerica’s most impressive archaeological complexes. This ancient city housed 100,000+ people at its peak around 500 CE. The main pyramid offers panoramic views across the entire site, with the Pyramid of the Moon and Temple of Quetzalcoatl completing the ceremonial core. Parking is adequate for overlanding rigs, though weekends draw heavy crowds from Mexico City.

Access via Highway 132D from Mexico City or the scenic back route through Otumba. The site opens at 8 AM — arrive early to beat tour buses and afternoon heat. No camping on-site, but several ejido areas nearby offer informal overnight parking for a small fee.
