Pang Transit Camp — Manali-Leh Highway High Plateau Campground

Pang sits at roughly 15,000 feet on the Manali-Leh Highway, wedged into a narrow canyon carved by the Tsarap River. This is a well-known transit stop for military convoys, truckers, and overlanders pushing toward Leh or heading south into the Rupshu. The camp is a loose collection of government-run dhabas (roadside eateries) and basic tent/room accommodation — not glamping, not clean, but functional. Expect shared toilets, dal-rice, chai, and a few mechanics who can tighten a bolt in a pinch. Altitude will remind you it’s the boss here.

Access is via the paved/rough Manali-Leh Highway (NH-3). The road is typically open June through mid-October — snow closes it hard outside that window. No advance reservation system; it’s first-come, first-served. Fuel is not available here — top off in Keylong or Darcha heading north, or in Leh heading south. Permits (Inner Line) required for onward travel into Rupshu.
