Owens River Road Dispersed Camping

Free riverside camping along the Upper Owens River with mountain views and decent fishing access north of Bishop.

Multiple informal sites spread along Owens River Road offer decent dispersed camping with the Sierra Nevada backdrop. Most spots accommodate 2-3 rigs with fire rings already established by previous campers. The river runs year-round but gets crowded with anglers during trout season. Expect cattle nearby — this is active grazing land. No facilities but plenty of space to spread out from other campers.

Access via paved Owens River Road north of Bishop, then dirt spurs to riverside sites. Road stays decent for most vehicles but can get muddy during snowmelt. Popular with fishermen and hunters, so weekends see more traffic. Winter access depends on snow levels.
