This high-country trailhead sits at the end of a rough 4WD road in the Inyo National Forest, providing access to some of the Sierra’s most spectacular wilderness. The parking area is small and primitive — just a clearing with room for maybe 6-8 vehicles. No facilities here, just a wilderness permit box and the start of trails heading into Evolution Valley and the John Muir Wilderness. Bear activity is common, so secure everything.
Getting here requires high-clearance 4WD and careful navigation on unmarked forest roads. The route can be confusing, and GPS isn’t reliable in the granite canyons. Best accessed from late spring through early fall, though snow can block the road well into June some years. Come prepared for wilderness conditions from the moment you park.
Remote wilderness access to Evolution Valley.
