Lough Corrib — Oughterard Village Fuel and Connemara Western Gateway Resupply

Town / Resupply

Oughterard sits on the eastern edge of Connemara where the landscape starts to go properly wild, strung along the N59 on the northern shore of Lough Corrib. It’s a real working Irish town — a couple of fuel stations, a supermarket, hardware shop, tackle stores, and pubs. For overlanders heading west into Connemara or north toward Leenane and the Killary, this is your last chance at a full shop before the roads narrow and the villages get thin. The lake itself is the largest in the Republic and worth a look from the town shore before you push on.

The N59 west from here is paved but increasingly narrow and scenic — expect coaches in summer. North toward Maam Cross is faster via the R336. No notable off-road access directly from town, but it punches above its weight as a logistics stop for the surrounding wild country. Cell signal is generally good in town.

Last real town before Connemara goes wild.
