Muckanaghederdauhaulia Bog Dispersed Camping
Wild camping spot on the edge of Muckanaghederdauhaulia bog (yes, that’s the real name), one of Ireland’s most remote places. Several cleared areas along the rough track allow for dispersed camping with dramatic views of the Twelve Bens range. The bog itself is a vast expanse of peat and heather that feels more like the Scottish Highlands than typical Irish countryside.
Access requires high-clearance vehicle via unmarked bog road north of Recess. Track becomes increasingly rough and boggy – 4WD recommended in wet conditions. No facilities whatsoever and extremely exposed to weather. Leave no trace is critical in this fragile ecosystem.
