Mount Mansfield State Forest Underhill State Park Trailhead
The main staging area for tackling Mount Mansfield via the western approach, this developed trailhead sits at 1,400 feet with a large parking area, restrooms, and trail maps. The Sunset Ridge Trail and Laura Cowles Trail both start here, offering different routes to Vermont’s 4,393-foot summit. Parking fills early on weekends during peak foliage season.
Access via Mountain Road from Underhill Center — paved all the way but steep in sections. The CCC shelter and picnic area make this a good lunch stop even if you’re not hiking. Trail conditions and closures posted at the kiosk. Open year-round but road may not be plowed in winter.
