Little Missouri National Grassland CCC Camp Dispersed Sites
Remnants of a 1930s Civilian Conservation Corps camp mark this sheltered draw where cottonwoods provide rare shade in the otherwise exposed grassland. Half a dozen established sites with fire rings sit among foundation ruins and old stone structures. The seasonal creek provides water in spring and after rain, though it often runs dry by midsummer. Excellent stargazing with minimal light pollution.
Located 6 miles down maintained gravel road from Highway 85 near Watford City. Road is good for any vehicle but gets washboard. Sites fill quickly during deer season in November. Bring water as creek is unreliable. Ghost town of Maah Daah Hey is 3 miles south with interesting ruins to explore.
