Lajitas — FM 170 Eastern River Road Gateway and Fuel Stop
Lajitas sits where FM 170 bends south toward the Rio Grande and Big Bend Ranch State Park’s eastern portal. It’s not a town in the traditional sense — it’s more of a resort complex that happens to have a fuel pump, a small store, and a golf course in the middle of the Chihuahuan Desert, which is its own kind of absurdity. For overlanders running the River Road, this is your last reliable fuel stop heading west before Presidio, roughly 50 miles away. Top off here. Pick up water and any last supplies.
The Lajitas Golf Resort operates the fuel station and store. Prices are higher than Presidio or Alpine — you’re paying for remoteness. The resort itself has lodging and food if you need it after a dusty River Road run. Cell service here is spotty at best — don’t count on it to verify hours before you roll in. Verify current fuel availability before departure; resort amenities have been known to shift hours seasonally.
Last fuel east of the River Road. Fill up.
