Laguna de Pátzcuaro Waterfront Dispersed Camping

A string of informal camping spots lines the quieter southeast shore of Laguna de Pátzcuaro, away from the tourist crowds but still offering spectacular views across the lake to the colonial town’s bell towers. Most sites are grassy clearings between old cypress trees, with direct lake access for launching kayaks or washing gear. Locals fish here at dawn and dusk but generally leave campers alone.

Access via the dirt road that branches off Highway 14 south of town—follow signs toward the ecological reserve but turn right before the entrance. Road conditions vary with the rains; high-clearance helpful but not essential. No facilities, so pack out everything.
