Laguna de Bacalar Dispersed Camping

Dispersed Camping

Scattered camping spots along the eastern shore of Laguna de Bacalar, Mexico’s most photogenic lake. The ‘Lake of Seven Colors’ lives up to its name with incredible blues ranging from turquoise shallows to deep sapphire channels. Basic camping with no facilities — pack everything in and out. Swimming and kayaking are world-class.

Access via dirt roads off Highway 307 south of Bacalar town. Some spots require short walks from parking areas. Mosquitos can be brutal at dawn and dusk, especially during rainy season. Local police occasionally patrol — camping is tolerated but not officially sanctioned.
