Kolob Canyons Viewpoint
Kolob Canyons offers a completely different perspective on Zion National Park — towering red sandstone cliffs and narrow canyons accessible via a scenic 5-mile dead-end drive. The viewpoint at road’s end provides panoramic views of the Finger Canyons of the Kolob, massive red rock formations that dwarf even Zion Canyon’s famous walls. This section sees maybe 10% of Zion’s visitors, making it a quiet alternative to the shuttle-accessed main canyon.
Access via I-15 Exit 40, about 20 miles north of the main Zion entrance. The paved Kolob Canyons Road climbs 1000 feet through pinyon and juniper to the viewpoint. Several hiking trails branch off the road, including routes to Taylor Creek and Kolob Arch. Open year-round but can be icy in winter at higher elevations.
