Kayenta Campground — Dead Horse Point State Park
Kayenta Campground sits on the high mesa inside Dead Horse Point State Park, a short drive off the Island in the Sky road. It’s a developed loop with pull-through and back-in sites, flush toilets, and the kind of juniper-and-slickrock setting you’d expect on the Colorado Plateau. Walk to the rim and the Colorado River gooseneck is hanging 2,000 feet below you. Sunrise and sunset are the show here, so plan on being up early. Spring and fall fill up fast.
Access is paved the whole way, so any rig gets in. Wind on the mesa can be relentless, so stake down your awning. Reservations are the norm and sites go early in peak season, so book ahead. Fees and amenities change, so check the state park site before you roll out. Pack water for hiking and keep to the established trails, because the cryptobiotic soil out here takes decades to recover. Have a dirty day.
