Inyo National Forest Rock Creek Dispersed Sites
Rock Creek Road offers numerous dispersed camping opportunities along the creek from 7,000 to 10,000 feet elevation, with sites tucked between granite boulders and aspen groves. Popular spots include areas near Iris Meadow and below Rock Creek Lake, offering creek access and dramatic Sierra Nevada backdrops. Sites fill quickly during summer months and fall color season, with weekend crowds arriving early Friday.
The road is paved to Rock Creek Lake but narrow with steep grades and tight turns — not recommended for rigs over 35 feet. Snow closes upper sections from November through May. Bears are active throughout the area, so proper food storage is mandatory. Most sites lack formal fire rings but campfires are generally permitted outside of fire restrictions.
