Inyo National Forest McGee Creek Dispersed Sites
McGee Creek Road climbs into the Eastern Sierra foothills, offering multiple dispersed camping spots along the creek between the campground and the trailhead. Sites range from small pullouts for single rigs to larger clearings that can handle multiple vehicles. Most spots have existing fire rings and decent creek access, with towering peaks creating a dramatic backdrop. The area gets busy during peak hiking season but settles down mid-week.
Access is via paved McGee Creek Road from Highway 395, then gravel as you climb higher. Road is suitable for any vehicle but gets rougher past the formal campground. Some sites require short walks from parking areas. Water is available from the creek but should be treated. Popular during fall color season and summer backpacking months.
