Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site

Point of Interest

This 848-acre National Historic Site preserves a complete colonial iron-making community, with restored furnace buildings, workers’ houses, and the ironmaster’s mansion. Rangers demonstrate blacksmithing and other period crafts during summer months. The visitor center offers solid exhibits on early American industry, and several hiking trails wind through the surrounding hardwood forest.

The site sits along the French Creek valley about 5 miles southeast of Birdsboro. French Creek runs year-round and provided waterpower for the original furnace operations. Park roads are paved but narrow, with limited parking during peak fall foliage season in October.
